Oct. 11/08
Greyhawk Golf Club:
Congratulations to Bobby (Roberta)
and Tim on their wedding day and sincere thanks from the Dukes for making us
part of your celebration. For a fall day, the weather couldn't have been
better and the golf-cart romp around the course made the afternoon!
Memorable moments (for us) include "Patty Murphy" (twice) "Summer of 69",
Barrett's Privateers (so we made up a few verses...) and the "American Pie"
finale. Thanks and fond regards to the PEI and Maritime contingent, who
made us feel right at home and DANCED UP A STORM till the last bus came!
Hope you guys all made it home OK :)
Oct. 4/08:
The
Georgetown Pub:
It's just about a year-to-the-day since we
played the Georgetown last, and this was a pretty good party. Thanks and
regards to the "October Fest Bus" crowd who dropped in early on (hope you guys
made it home OK). And here's to Chris for having the balls to get up and
sing "Saw her standing there" by the Beatles in front of the October Fest crowd
(well done, Chris!). Thanks again to John Alves and the Georgetown staff
for having us back. Cheers till next time!
Oct.
3/08:
The Royal
Oak:
Our first performance at the 188 Bank Street
location. Nice Bar, friendly service, great food, great people! This
was a "good time" and we'd
like to thank all the folks that came out to see us this show. Special thanks to Kathleen, who showed up
with her "Bodhran" and played up a storm. There were people from
work, ex-band mates (Hey Keith!) friends and family too. Sincere thanks
and here's hoping we see you all again soon.
July 26/08
Constance Bay Community Center, Ottawa, Ontario:
Heartfelt congratulations to Kirby
and Sheila who were wed this day at one of the most classy (not to mention
congenial) wedding receptions we've had the pleasure to play. The bride
was stunning and the speeches were as hilarious as they were touching.
Great food along with friends and family who treated the band like we were
friends and family too! Kirby and Sheila... sincere thanks for a great
time. Thanks also to "John Shea", who gave us one of the best stage
introductions we're ever had (we have it on tape, John!). Happy
birthday to "Brady" who cut a rug with his wife as we played "Into the Mystic".
And a final thank you to the "late night crowd" (you know who you are) for
requesting "American Pie" and allowing us to rock to the finish with "Lager and
Ale". Cheers!
June 26/08:
The Royal
Oak, 318 Bank St.
:
A beautiful, hot, summer night and it was fun to be back on Bank St. This
was our 3rd show as a duo and, thanks in great part to the Kanata contingent
(you know who you are), the bar filled up and the joint was jumpin'. There
was even a surprise appearance by April Wine! Thanks again to the Kanata
crowd as well as Management and Staff at the Royal Oak... hope to see you all
again soon!
March 28/08:
Air force
Officer's Mess, 158 Gloucester St. This
is the first year we've got to play two (2) St. Patrick's Day shows in the same
month and thanks to the good folks at the Mess... this show was just as much fun
as March 17th was. We'd like to thank Iain Petrie and Captain Jamie Millar
for the warm welcome for this, our first appearance at the Air Force Officer's
Mess. Friendly people, great food and appreciative audience made this
event a pleasure to play! Sincere thanks to all... hope to see you all
again soon :)
March 17/08:
The
Barley Mow, Orleans:
We'd like to thank Craig (Manager) and the friendly staff at the Barley Mow for
helping to make this one of the most enjoyable St. Patrick's Day shows
ever. The house was full (without being "packed") and
this helped to minimize the "zoo factor" that so often accompanies a
St. Pat's Day gig. There's some real nice people out in Orleans and I
think most of them were at the Mow that night. Craig, thanks for
downloading the Unicorn lyrics for us! Sincere thanks to every one who
came out to see this, our premier performance as a Duo. The Duo
format gives us a wonderful opportunity to interact one-on-one with the audience
and thanks to you, we had a great time and we hope you did too!
Jan 19/08: RA
Center ,
Ottawa, Ontario Congratulations,
thanks and best wishes to Rose and Gilles, who were married over the holidays
(in the Dominican Republic no less) and chose Saturday to celebrate with
friends, family and "The Dukes" here at home. This was a great
group of party people that were up dancing for most of the show and we enjoyed
ourselves immensely. Sincere thanks to "Paul Barnes", who sat in when
our drummer of the past 4 years (Gary O'Donnell) was suddenly sidelined due to
injury. Paul did an awesome job, absorbing the repertoire in just one
rehearsal and laying down a solid groove at the show. Paul, we're most grateful
and Gary if you're reading this... get well soon!
Dec 7/07: RA
Center - Aircraft
Services Christmas Party: Sincere
thanks to Crystal Presley and the AS social committee for having us back and
once again organizing a fine event. The hospitality was exceptional and it
was great to talk with familiar faces again from last year. The Dukes
would like to salute Derek for taking the stage for "Barrett's
Privateers", Jonas (GO STEELERS!) for taking us through
"Grapevine" and our back-up singers (you know who you are) for putting
a shine on "Mustang Sally" and "Mony Mony". Thanks for
having us back! We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New
Year.
Oct 24/07: Chateau
Montebello -
TD Canada Trust Conference: What a
pleasure it was to play the Chateau Montebello and the classy, intimate
atmosphere of the Seigneurie Bar was just right for the occasion. The
crowd was up dancing for our Celtic and Maritime segment and up again, as we
moved on to a dance/rock set. We'd like to thank Heather for her
hospitality, Heather AND Jim for dancing up a storm and all the gang at The
Trust for a fine party! Playing the Chateau on a beautiful fall day was
almost reward in itself. Performing for a lively crown of truly congenial
people was even better!
Oct .13/07:
Almonte, Ontario - Fran's 60th Birthday! When
we played Tom and Louise's wedding back in Sept. 2006, we had no idea we be
playing again for the same group of people to help celebrate Fran's birthday a
year later. Sincere thanks to best-man "Jeff" for having us
back, for all the assistance and the fine hospitality. Once again, our
stage was graced by Jeff's fine vocal performance for the closing ceremonies.
We had fun Saturday night and we hope everyone there did too! Happy
Birthday Fran :)
Oct. 5/07:
The
Georgetown Pub:
Well, after a
well-deserved summer break it's great to be back! We haven't played as a
trio since February 2006 and the Georgetown was the perfect venue to shake-down
the new show. Given one of the last, fine, days of summer weather and a
long week-end to boot... attendance was predictably sparse, with the exception
of our dear friends at the front table, who we were VERY happy to see!
Sincere thanks to Tracey Mitchell, Caroline and Tony Pignat, Dave and Margarita
Peloso, Rose, Aaron and Aaron's Mom. YOU GUYS MADE OUR NIGHT!
March 17/07:
Jacques'
Trap Roadhouse:
Wow... Saturday and St.
Patrick's day all rolled into one! The night went fast and the house was
a-rockin'. Thanks for all the "requests" and here's to all those
who shared a birthday with the blessed St. Patrick (no less than six that
night... was it "free beer if it's your birthday night" or
something? Thanks again to the management & staff at the JTR for
making this a great event.
Dec 16/06:
Jacques'
Trap Roadhouse: This
was our first performance at the JTR and we can't say enough good things about
it! This is a first-class show bar with friendly staff, delicious food and
one of the best sounding rooms we've had the pleasure to play. With 3
Christmas parties going on (cheers to Lefebvre Electric, NAV Canada and Castor
Heating) and a great atmosphere, it was truly our pleasure to perform at
Jacque's Trap (cute name, yes?) All in all, we couldn't have asked for a
better venue to wrap-up our 2006 performance year. Happy Holidays
and thanks again to the owners, management and staff at the JTR - Hope to
see you all again soon in 2007!
Dec 9/06:
West
Carleton Banquet Hall -
DRS Technologies Christmas Party: A
fun party, delicious food, generous prizes and great people! Special
thanks to DRS for for making us feel right at home and a huge thank you to our
guest performers (Beth, Karl & Marv...) for helping to make it a special
evening. It was great to see so many familiar faces up dancing and having
a good time. Thanks for the support and thanks again for making the Dukes
of Haggis part of your year-end celebration. Happy Holidays!
Nov.
24/06:
RA
Center
- Aircraft Services Christmas Party: Wow...
what can we say but "Thank you, thank you, thank you" to the good
folks at Aircraft Services for the party of a lifetime! This was by far
the best crowd we've seen this year and we were simply blown away by the
hospitality and the response. It's probably an understatement to say that
Aircraft Services raises the bar for what a corporate party (or any party)
should be! Special thanks to Crystal Presley and the AS social
committee, for the wonderful meal and extraordinary job of organizing this
event. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you all... sure hope we see
you again next year :)
Nov. 11/06:
Emerald Links
Golf Club -
40th Birthday Party: A
modest gathering, but great party by any reckoning. Happy Birthday
Denise... we wish you all the best. Special thanks to Peter for being such
a good host and making us feel right at home and last but NOT least... fond
regards to the "ladies in the gallery" (you know who you are).
We had a great time... thanks for having us!
Sept. 9/06: Agricultural
Center - Almonte, Ontario We extend our congratulations,
thanks and best wishes to Tom Sadler and Louise Simms, who were wed this
day. We were warmly received by this great group of people and "best
man Jeff" even got up to sing "If I had a Million Dollars". Thanks
guys!
July 8/06: The
Georgetown Pub A
beautiful summer evening and how great it was to see so many familiar faces out
to party! It was inspirational to perform for a genuinely appreciative
crowd and for that, we are truly grateful. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Johnny and Allison
who've been staunch Dukes supporters and will be sorely missed. We wish
them every success in San Diego - see you again in 3 years guys... sniff :(
June 24/06: The
Royal Oak: This
was the first truly nice week-end of the summer and Saturday was a patio
lounger's dream. Great scenery out by the parking lot... we laid down the
boogie an' we boiled those funky lobsters till they died. Many thanks to
Sue and the crew at the RO, whose hospitality made everyone feel right at home
:)
April 22/06: 40th Birthday: Some party, huh? This was a great group
of people that was up dancing from the get-go! $1,000 in "pennies" was
an eye-opener and we'd be remiss if we forgot to mention Sean's strip-tease in
set-3 (and that's the last time we play "leave your hat on" for THIS
crowd). But seriously... it was our great pleasure to play for
"friends", Sean did an A-one job of organizing the event and the
hospitality was tremendous. Thanks again for having us and Happy Birthday
Donna!
March 17/06:
The
Georgetown Pub
St.Patrick's day at the Georgetown Sports Bar was a huge success. This was
Keith's (our new keyboardist & singer) first appearance and his effort
was outstanding (learning 50 tunes in just over 6
weeks!). An absolutely packed house and guest appearances
by Amanda Rheaume made this a
show to remember! Sincere thanks for the management and staff of the
Georgetown for hosting the event.
Feb. 17/06: The Highlander Pub
Well, it all started out fairly routine but by set-3... Mike, Anish, Hillary,
Neal, Kate, and Kamna showed up to party like there was no tomorrow.
Hillary sang a a duet with our bass player and we got to help celebrate Kate's
Birthday (hope it was a good one, kate) As usual, the Pub management and
staff made us feel most welcome and with luck, we'll play the Highlander again
soon.
Jan 27 & 28/06: The Highlander Pub
A quieter house Friday but man... a full, rockin' house on Saturday! Guess
we had some left-over revelers from the Robbie Burns celebrations earlier in the
week. And can you say SCOTCH?!? Sure was a lot of THAT goin' round
and with 357 varieties... the Highlander is the place to sample almost any brand
or vintage you'd ever care to try. T'was a great crowd Saturday night...
special thanks to "Pam and Hugh".... have a safe trip back west,
folks!
Oct. 15/05: National Arts Center: Wasn't THAT a party??? What a wedding! A beautiful
Bride, a handsome Groom and the atmosphere at the NAC fountain room was nothing
short of MAGIC. Our sincere thanks to Richard and Ruth-Ann for having the
Dukes play their reception and we wish them congratulations on their wedding day
and best wishes for the future. Your guys have a great group of friends,
family and REALLY... we've rarely seen a party like this one!
Sept. 17/05:
The
Fergus Inn Pub Without question, this is the WILDEST crowd we've
encountered to date! The last set went on for over an hour with
stage and dance floor crammed full of screaming partiers. Folks got up to
sing, shout... we even had a last-minute harmonica solo from a young stranger
who figured he could blow harp along with Garth Brooks... AND HE DID! Glad
we had such a great night unfortunately, the new owners may be cutting back on
live entertainment for a while, so it was great to have such a blow-out for what
could be our last appearance at the Fergus for some time to come. Again,
we thank the owners, management and staff of the Fergus Inn for having us back
and always giving us a warm welcome... we'll miss you guys!
Sept. 2 & 3/05:
Biddy Mulligan's Irish Pub:
Great to be back at Biddy's. Surprise guest
appearance by "Dave Foster" on guitar Friday night put a different
spin on things. Sort of a Celtic/jazz/country/klesmer fusion kind of...
well, it was very cool, what ever it was! As always, the staff at Biddy's
were more than gracious and we thank Danny, Jan, and the Biddy's crew for the
invite and the hospitality (Drew says... "Try the haddock"). If
you missed Saturday's show, then you missed Frank's shlursion of "The
Unicorn Song"... always fun when someone from the audience gets up to sing
:)
July 30/05:
P.J.
Quigley's Bar
& Grill A great crowd it was and it was good to see the
"regulars" were out. Fond regards to "Mark and
Jennifer", who always seems to make it out when we play at PJ's. Best
regards to "Freddy Fred" (and wife)... a transplanted Celtic musician
from "out west" and as always, our special thanks to Aziz, Brian
(behind the bar), Darcy (in the kitchen) and the lovely waitresses at PJ's
for making us welcome. We love you guys :)
July 23/05: Stag
& Doe - Orleans:
HOLY CROW... this was a blow-out
party! Didn't get home till four in the morning and we're STILL
recovering. Our best wishes and sincere thanks go to "John &
Allison", who's honor this party was in and who'll be tying the knot in
September. They, along with the folks who stayed on till the end should
offer courses in "how to have a good time", 'cause these people sure
know how to party! Johnny and Allison have "friends in low
places"... please visit again to view the photo's which will surely
follow...
June 24/05:
The
Fergus Inn Pub This was our fourth appearance at the Fergus Inn
and this venue is still a favorite! Thanks again to the Fergus staff and
best regards to "Will", who was drinkin' far too much cider. The
crowd that stayed till the end of the night (you know who you are...) partied
like the house was on fire 'till the end!
June 3 & 4/05: Biddy
Mulligan's (Bank street)
Wow... excellent... great bar... great patrons! Biddy's
only opened it's doors this year (just in time for St. Patrick's day) and our
first time there felt just like "coming home". Rocked the house
so hard Friday night that we blew-out the front wall! Special thanks to
"NATE" behind the bar, for putting up with the Dukes
"shenanigans". NATE IS GREAT, NATE IS GOOD... LET US THANK HIM
FOR OUR BEER! Additional thanks to Danny and Biddy's management for having
us in. Spread the word folks... Biddy's is a great little Irish Pub!
May 20/05: Grace
O'Malley's: And a good time was had by all... the few... the proud...
the die-hard Dukers!
May 13 & 14/05: The Highlander Pub
Well... we didn't quite get the weather we wanted but the Highlander is
still a great place to perform. Special thanks to "Maurice &
Ginnet" who were visiting from London (England, that is...) and were nice
enough to buy us a round'o'scotch. We wish you both a great vacation and a
safe journey home! Even Saturday night's rain didn't dampen the
spirits. Thanks again to the Highlander staff and management for their
warm accommodation :)
April 21/05: The Highlander Pub
This, our first time at The Highlander was a nice experience. An
intimate bar down on the Market, great ambiance, friendly staff... exactly OUR
KIND OF PLACE! We had a great time (even for a Thursday), we walked away
with a return engagement in hand and we'd like to thank the staff and management
at The Highlander for such a genuinely warm reception. Looking forward to
playing here again in May :) Sean... you rock on the spoons, man!
April 1/05: The
Fergus Inn Pub "3rd time makes good" as they say... and
a good time was had by all. Happy Birthday Lauren! It was great to
see you and your friends back at the Fergus. You'll be up singing with us again
next time... right?
March 17/05:
O'Connor's
Gee... with a capacity crowd, line-ups at the door and 500 people on the dance
floor simultaneously jumping up'n'down and singing along to "500
Miles"... it was worth putting together a Celtic band for this day
alone! Here's to St. Paddy's Day!!!
Feb. 19/05: P.J.
Quigley's Bar
& Grill Seafood special night strikes again! Thanks
again to "Aziz, the Owner" (who treats us like kings) and "Darcy,
the Chef" (whose cooking is simply outstanding!) See you all again
next time :)
Feb. 11/05: The
Fergus Inn Pub 2nd time at the Fergus or rather... 2nd GREAT TIME at
the Fergus. Sincere thanks to everyone who showed-up (some of whom we've
not seen for quite some time). Tracy, hope you had a great birthday
bash... thanks for the "flying coasters" event! Our thanks again
to the new management of the Fergus ("John Alves" as well as the folks
behind the bar) for making us welcome... hope we see you again soon :)
Jan. 21/05: Grace
O'Malley's: T'was a Friday night and Man... WAS IT EVER COLD! (minus
30!). Many thanks to the few, hardy individuals who made it out
anyway. Special thanks to "Francois and the gang" (Celtic fans
and dancers all...). YOU guys made the show worth while :) :) :)
Dec. 17+18/04: Ottawa
Curling Club Hey!... a last minute surprise gig! I guess
curlers sleep all day so they can party all night (they must, 'cause the party
doesn't even start 'till after midnight!). Warning: Never let curlers near
a microphone... you may never get them off! But a good time was had by all
and with luck, we'll get back to play here again. Cheers :)
Dec. 11/04: The
Fergus Inn Pub Gotta tell ya... the patrons at this bar KNOW HOW
TO PARTY! This was, without a doubt, the most appreciative crowd we've
seen to date! Sincere thanks to Adrian and Tony (behind the bar) and the
Fergus Staff for helping to make this one an show we'll always remember!
"Mark", thanks for the cake... hope you had a great Birthday :)
Nov. 27/04: P.J.
Quigley's Bar
& Grill Good food, intimate atmosphere, wonderful hosts and lively
patrons. Special thanks to Aziz for the "perks" and
hospitality. We'll look forward to playing here again!
Nov. 12/04: Grace
O'Malley's (Stittsville) Even more fun than the first time! Our
thanks to "Manager Sam" and the Gracie's staff, for making us welcome
:)
Oct. 28/04: O'Connor's:
Another fun Thursday night and a fine warm-up for St. Patty's day 2005 !
Oct. 8/04: Grace
O'Malley's (Stittsville) Friday night ROCKS! See you guys again on
Nov. 12th. POSTHUMOUS NOTES: This is the gig where Brian got the "cold from
hell" the week before - we got though this one by the skin of our teeth
(really shoulda cancelled out but hey... we made it thought :)
Sept. 10/04: Barley
Mow Pub (Barrhaven) Our thanks to "Peter" (for taking us in
out of the cold) and all the staff at "the Mow". We had a great time
and the patrons know how to party! Hope we'll see you guys again soon!
Jul. 30+31/04: The
Celtic
Cross (Elgin Street)
Our thanks to "Danny" (for giving us a go),
"Jan" (YOU DA MAN!) behind the bar and the staff at The
Cross. A more agreeable, easy-going bunch of folks we have seldom
come across and playing The Cross was a real pleasure.
Jul. 22/04:
O'Connor's
WOW... O'Connor's Rocks! Many thanks To Dave L. for giving The Dukes
a foot in the door and asking us back again. Lookin' forward to playing
here again (...nothing like a packed dance floor :)
Jul. 3/04: P.J.
Quigley's Bar
& Grill An Alexander Keith's Party with "Lobster Fest"
thrown-in to boot! Thanks again to the guys behind the bar (you really
know your business...). Hope we see you again next summer.
Apr. 30/04:
Kaffe 1870 (Wakefield) Sincere
thanks to Ron at the 1870 for this first gig. Wakefield has it's own, unique,
music scene and it's always a pleasure to be a part it (if even for a little
while...).
